UX and Product Design continuous learning: A review of the Interaction Design Foundation
I was invited by the Interaction Design Foundation for being in the top 1% of course performers, to share my experience with them, and how IxDF helped me!
Background
Well, let me first introduce myself, I’m a Product Designer with a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology. You can check a bit more about me on my website.
I joined the Interaction Design Foundation at the beginning of this year (2022), recommended by my leader. I was looking for somewhere I could learn continuously, as a way to deepen some familiar topics and also get in touch with new ones in UX Design and Product area.
-Spoiler alert!
That’s what I found on IxDF!
What caught my attention first
IxDF caught my attention by the amount of UX design courses available with only one subscription, and with an accessible price. Plus the quality of the courses, with qualified and recognized teachers in the UX industry, is the stronger point of the platform.
Learning process
So far I’ve done 7 courses and am enjoying the experience!
The way the content is proposed is very pleasant, with classes that mix text and video, besides articles and book indications and templates of tools to help you put the knowledge acquired to practice, and implement them in daily work.
How IxDF helped me
I worked as a UX Designer/Product Designer for about a year when I discovered the Interaction Design Foundation, and their user experience design courses helped me to:
• Deepen my knowledge about things I already did in practice, bringing more quality to my work (for example, they have dedicated courses for User Journey Mapping, Usability Testing, and other methods);
• They helped me to better apply the knowledge I had from my background in psychology and neuropsychology to user experience design, with courses that relate psychology and cognition to UX design;
• The courses contents help me to substantiate my actions and decisions at work, and the organization of the courses makes it easier for me to have references for this;
- I got a promotion with 8 months of company in part for having accelerated my professional development with IxDF courses, and I can better support trainees and juniors on daily work.
Tips
The courses are 100% online and you can do them at your own pace, and I know this can be a challenge for some people, so if I can give you tips to keep your focus, it is:
• Constancy — Define days to study, with a time frame for it; I usually set aside a few minutes before or after work, as I’m already in front of the computer and my head is warmed up for it.
• But, don’t force yourself — Taking a 5-minute class is just as important as studying for 30 minutes/1 hour. Learning is something constant, do it at the pace you can to maximize what you absorb, considering your day and routine!
Final review
I strongly recommend anyone interested in UX Design and Product Design to join the Interaction Design Foundation, it doesn’t matter if you are at the beginning of your journey or if you already come a long way from it, you will learn from its courses, and by interacting with its community.
